Basuki Wants Official Residence of Jakarta Governor Opened for Public

After former Jakarta Governor who is now Indonesia President Joko Widodo left the official residence of Jakarta Governor on Jalan Taman Surapati, Menteng, Central Jakarta, and Acting Jakarta Governor Basuki T Purnama decided will not stay there, the building is projected as a tourist destination in the capital city and opened for public.

“Just open it for tourism, public. I’m sure many people are curious what the governor’s house and bed look like,” said Basuki, Thursday (10/23).

But, the former regent of East Belitung does not know when the plan would be realized.

“One thing for sure is that besides for tourism purposes, the official residence of Jakarta Governor will also be used to welcome official guests and organize gubernatorial events,” he stated.

According to Basuki, he was inspired to make the official residence of Jakarta Governor as a tourism destination and open it for public when he still served as East Belitung Regent.

“The same happened when I served as Regent (of East Belitung). We opened it (governor’s official residence) for public. Thus, residents and tourists can go inside the house and see what the governor’s room looks like. The same thing can also be applied here in Jakarta,” he uttered.
